Official data sources
HRC’s success-rate page links to sources such as SART and notes that patient characteristics and treatments affect comparisons. Confirm the institution, report year, and treatment type rather than using one overall figure for every site or service.
| Report terminology | What to check |
|---|---|
| Clinical pregnancy / live birth | Which outcome and stage of observation are recorded? |
| Per transfer / per cycle | Which stages are included, including cancellations or no transfer? |
| Cumulative results | How many treatments and which observation period? |
| Age / gamete source | Is the population comparable to your circumstances? |
Pregnancy, live birth, and denominators
Clinical pregnancy, live birth, rates per transfer, rates per cycle, and cumulative results are different measures. Denominators and observation periods can substantially change numbers. Identify which people and stages are counted.
Comparability
Age, gamete source, treatment type, history, and patient selection can affect reports. Do not directly apply another group’s results to yourself or simply rank figures with different years or definitions.
Medical outcomes and the wider project
A medical cycle outcome and completion of a surrogacy project cover different things. Matching, agreements, pregnancy, delivery, and subsequent procedures cannot be summarized by one medical success rate.
Discuss the report with your doctor
HRC can explain the relevance to your circumstances. Record the institution, year, treatment population, and outcome definition before discussing what it tells you.
- Which clinic and year?
- Per transfer or cycle, and pregnancy or live birth?
- A comparable patient group?
- Can it inform my situation and what are the limitations?
Published statistics cannot be directly converted into an individual result. Doctors assess personal outcomes and risks.
