HRC laboratories and related technology

Understand the roles of embryology laboratories, sample identification, and culture tools.

Embryology laboratories

HRC’s Pasadena, Encino, and Newport Beach laboratories handle embryo culture, freezing, and related work. Facilities and available procedures can differ; the medical team arranges the location.

Embryo culture and storage

Low-oxygen culture, culture media, and vitrification are used in culture or preservation. Ask the laboratory and clinical team about culture conditions, storage, and warming. A technology does not guarantee an individual outcome.

RI Witness sample identification

RI Witness is an electronic witnessing system for sample identification and transfer monitoring within laboratory quality management. Ask about the stages and procedures covered; use does not eliminate all risk.

Geri and CHLOE

Geri time-lapse incubation and CHLOE analysis tools support culture management and observation of embryo development. The referenced materials describe CHLOE as investigational and some software as awaiting FDA approval.

Confirm applicable sites, conditions, costs, and current regulatory status with HRC. These tools do not guarantee treatment outcomes.

Questions for the laboratory

  • Where are my samples received and processed?
  • How do identification, authorization, and transport fit together?
  • How are culture, testing, storage, and warming arranged?
  • Are the tools relevant to my plan and what are their limits?
  • Are laboratory services and storage billed separately?
